Addressing School Districts’ Top Concerns through Thoughtful Planning and Design

It’s not news that current economic conditions have left California’s state budgets in limbo. Among the hardest hit by budget cuts has been the state’s education system, forcing school districts—from administrators to teachers to students—to be more creative with their resources. The uncertainties of the state budget and global bond markets have left many districts concerned about the future success of their school. John Nichols, HMC’s Pre-K-12 Practice Leader, has written an industry paper exploring some of these concerns, and what districts can be doing to make the most of a challenging situation.

DSA Is Going Paperless With A Little Help From HMC Architects

The Division of the State Architect (DSA) has initiated a pilot program—E-Doc 101—to improve their submission process by switching to a paperless system. In an effort to green the way they do business, increase their overall efficiency, and minimize errors, DSA is working exclusively with HMC Architects during the early phases of development to work through all the issues upfront in order to create the ideal electronic transmission process.
